The first of January often carries an air of reinvention. Social media overflows with resolutions, fresh starts, and bold declarations of change. But as an artist, I see things a little differently. For me, January 1st isn’t a reset button—it’s a continuation.

Art doesn’t adhere to calendars. Creativity doesn’t stop and start based on dates in a planner. The work we began last year, the lessons we learned, and the momentum we built—these are not erased or replaced because the clock struck midnight. Instead, they become the foundation we stand on as we move forward.

Staying on target as an artist isn’t about chasing something completely new every year. It’s about refining, deepening, and evolving what already exists. It’s about showing up consistently, even when the excitement fades and the blank canvas feels intimidating. The magic isn’t in a grand ‘new start’; it’s in the quiet commitment to keep going.

In my studio, every painting begins with where I am. Not where I want to be, not where I think I should be, but exactly where I stand in that moment. This philosophy doesn’t change because the calendar does. Instead, January 1st serves as a gentle reminder to stay true to the path already in motion.

This year, I won’t be chasing a ‘new me’ or setting arbitrary goals. I’ll be doing what I’ve always done: showing up, staying honest with my work, and allowing my art to grow naturally.

To my fellow artists and creators, let’s remember: progress isn’t always loud or dramatic. Sometimes, it’s just about picking up the brush, one more day, one more stroke, one more layer.

Here’s to continuing the work, staying on target, and trusting the process—not just in January, but every single day.

Happy 2025. Let’s keep building.
